Heinrich Stöpler graduated from Utrecht University as an instrument maker in 1902. Later that same year, he started his own company, making hand tools, artificial limbs, corsets and bandages. He also imported medical instruments and equipment. Heinrich Stöpler’s company thrived, becoming very well known and respected. The Stöpler name has been a standard of excellence in the market for medical products since the early 20th century. It is a brand associated with rigorous standards, quality and reliability. Stöpler remained family-owned until the end of the 1960s.

 

Stöpler became part of the Simed Health Care Group in 1996, joining Simed International and other companies. Through all this, the ties between Stöpler and the City of Utrecht have remained strong, though the company did move from the centre of Utrecht, where it was started, to the northern edge of the city. In 2007 Stöpler moved into its present offices in Utrecht Leidsche Rijn.
